About SciFM
The SciFM conference series has quickly become a leading venue for foundation models and AI agents for scientific discovery and engineering innovation. The conferences feature engaging talks and panel discussions with thought leaders and world-renowned experts from national laboratories, academia, and leading AI companies, along with hands-on tutorials and interactive workshops.
SciFM events cover a broad range of topics, including techniques to enhance mathematical and scientific reasoning, AI-driven workflows, advances in algorithms and computational infrastructure, and applications in biology, energy sciences, climate science, and materials science. 2024
The SciFM conference series began in 2024 with its inaugural event, SciFM24: Scientific Foundation Models, followed by SciFM25: Scientific Discovery in the Age of AI. Both conferences were organized and hosted by the Michigan Institute for Computational Discovery and Engineering (MICDE) at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
2026
The 3rd conference, SciFM26: Foundation Models and AI Agents for Science, was hosted by the University of Chicago in May 2026. The event brought together researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers to examine the growing role of foundation models, AI agents, and advanced computational systems in scientific research and engineering.
2027
The 4th SciFM conference, SciFM27, will return to Ann Arbor in late spring of 2027 and will be organized by the University of Michigan’s MICDE, College of Pharmacy, and Department of Physics. It will serve as a core venue for advancing areas such as physics-informed learning, AI and laboratory automation, and agentic systems.
2028
Looking ahead, SciFM28 will be hosted by Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
